He was a great American mathematician, physicist ( he also served for many years as a physics professor at Reed College) and inventor. During his professional scientific career he made substantial contributions to computational number theory. Crandall was also author of several scientific books and studies. He passed away on December 20, 2012 after a short bout with acute leukemia.
